THE launched its Impact Ranking based on the 17 SDG and the SZTE is ranked among the 100 Universities.

Experts from the EUGLOH 2.0 association, as well as representatives of the invited universities and institutes, exchanged experiences on international higher education, research, and development projects from May 29, 2023, for one week at the University of Novi Sad. The University of Szeged had the largest delegation at the conference organized in the framework of Erasmus+.

This is how the students of Rutgers University received the announcement of the inauguration of Katalin Karikó, an SZTE alumna and professor, as an honorary doctor. The University of Szeged is included in the 2023 top list of the Center for World University Rankings: it ranks 708th on the list featuring the top 2000 universities of the world, landing SZTE among the top 3 Hungarian institutions. The University of Szeged got the best ranking among Hungarian universities in the area that measures academic excellence.

The new Chinese director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Szeged, appointed in February, who arrived in Szeged from Shanghai, is already working in Hungary. We asked Wang Rui, who already has a membership card to the library, about the goals of her two-year assignment.

In autumn 2023, 39 Indonesian students from 19 universities will study at SZTE. The students are funded by the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards. According to surveys measuring the effectiveness of the programme, 100% of participating students would recommend the University of Szeged to their peers.

On 3 June, Richter Health City will visit Széchenyi Square in Szeged. A series of health promotion programmes launched by the Hungarian pharmaceutical company in 2009 offers residents the opportunity to participate in health screenings and consultations free of charge, without making an appointment. Participants in the event can not only do something for themselves, but also support the Szent-Györgyi Albert University of Szeged Clinical Centre.

Medical doctors who freshly graduated at the University of Szeged were greeted in Japan. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University and Dr. Judit Fendler, Chancellor of the University.

On 19 April 2023, Katalin Karikó, Professor at the University of Szeged, was elected a member of the most prestigious scientific society in the German-speaking world. The world-renowned biochemist spoke about the miraculous mRNA molecule at Leopoldina.

The United States' biggest cash prize in science was handed out at an award ceremony in Hollywood, where world-renowned researchers, including Katalin Karikó, professor of the University of Szeged, were celebrated by movie and media stars and other celebrities.

The University of Szeged has signed a unique cooperation agreement with one of the world’s best-known and most influential medical research bases. An agreement on joint research and training between the Pasteur Institute of Paris and the University of Szeged was reached on April 18, 2023. in Szeged.

This year, the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged and the Eötvös József High School held a joint event on the occasion of the "Chinese Language Day". More than 400 foreign participants registered for the Online Open Day of the University of Szeged 2023, organised by the Office for International Admissions and Cooperation on 9 March 2023. This is how the hearing improvement surgeries, of which more than a thousand have already been performed at the Szent-Györgyi Albert Clinical Center of the University of Szeged, can be characterized. Cochlear's implant helps young children born deaf and also provides a solution for hearing loss in old age. The collaboration between Coursera and the University of Szeged is set to progress the advancement of higher education in Szeged. On January 23, 2023, Coursera's CEO, Jeff Maggioncalda, visited the University of Szeged to formalize the partnership and address the faculty and students in an opening ceremony.
