The University of Szeged is included in the 2023 top list of the Center for World University Rankings: it ranks 708th on the list featuring the top 2000 universities of the world, landing SZTE among the top 3 Hungarian institutions. The University of Szeged got the best ranking among Hungarian universities in the area that measures academic excellence.
In the latest higher education top list published by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) on May 15, 2023, the University of Szeged achieved the best Hungarian ranking in terms of academic excellence: based on this indicator, it ranks 197th. CWUR examined more than 20,500 institutions this year, and SZTE is in the top 3.5% of the universities measured. In the list featuring the top 2,000 universities in the world, SZTE is ranked 708th, with this result it is among the top three in Hungary.
CWUR's 2023 list ranks universities based on seven criteria, including the quality of education (measured by international awards won by the institution's former students), employability of graduates, academic and research excellence, citation rate, number of patents, and publications. 6 Hungarian universities were included in the top 2000 list of the Center for World University Rankings. In the international ranking, SZTE is featured among universities that are also recognized at the world level, such as the Italian Rome Tre University or the Polish Warsaw University of Technology. At the top of the CWUR list are three American universities: Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University.
