THE launched its Impact Ranking based on the 17 SDG and the SZTE is ranked among the 100 Universities.

Every year, Times Higher Education prepares its Impact Rankings based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals formulated by the United Nations. In this year's ranking, the University of Szeged was ranked 85th in the thematic list of "peace, justice and strong institutions". In addition, it achieved the leading position in eight other categories in Hungary, while in the overall ranking it maintained its 401st-600th position in the international scene, despite the significant expansion of the field.

Launched in 2019, THE Impact Rankings by Times Higher Education assesses the economic, social impact and responsibility of the world's higher education institutions against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. In this year's ranking, the University of Szeged has maintained its previous position in the international field (401-600th), despite the fact that the newly published list includes about 180 more institutions than last year, totalling 1,591. It was ranked second out of 11 institutions in Hungary, tied with two other Hungarian universities.

In addition to the overall ranking, University of Szeged also achieved excellent results in the 17 thematic lists, and was ranked in the top 100 in the ranking of Sustainable Development Goal 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions), coming in 85th in the world, the best ranking in Hungary. In addition, it also ranked first in eight other categories in absolute or shared first place in Hungary: no poverty, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, climate action, protecting waters, life below water, and life on land. In the other eight sub-lists, SZTE also scored very well, almost without exception achieving podium results among Hungarian institutions in each of them (zero hunger, good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, gender equality, responsible consumption and production, partnership to achieve the goal).

Internationally, University of Szeged improved its position on many SDG lists:

the biggest improvement this year was in the area of fair work and economic growth (from 401-600 to 201-300), but on several other lists also improved at least one category (no poverty, good health and well-being, gender equality, peace, justice and strong institutions, partnership to acheive the goal). In other cases, it has maintained its excellent ranking among institutions ranked up to fifty or a hundred higher (gender equality, climate action, clean water and sanitation, life below water, life on land). It also ranks in the top 200 or 300 in ten categories on the international lists.

As we reported earlier, the University of Szeged also scores highly in other sustainability rankings. In the Indonesian UI GreenMetric ranking, SZTE is one of the greenest Hungarian universities (second in Hungary, 73rd in the world), and the best Hungarian institution in the industry, innovation and infrastructure category. The University of Szeged ranked 381-400th in the QS 2022 Sustainability Ranking, and ranked first in Hungary in indicators measuring the impact of education, knowledge sharing, equal opportunities, and promoting a good quality of life, as well as in teaching and research activities in the field of sustainability, sustainable institutional operations, and preparation for the labour market.

The outstanding results achieved in the rankings also demonstrate the University of Szeged's commitment to the goals of the United Nations, whether it is the educational, research and service activities undertaken to enhance the well-being of the social environment, the dissemination of knowledge, the preservation of human, social, cultural and environmental values, social, economic and environmental responsibility, or the promotion of sustainable development.
