STUDY AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS IN PEDIATRICS

2015/16 YEAR First and Second SEMESTER
In accordance with the Study and Exam Regulations of the University of Szeged

Study requirements, topic lists, schedules, end-course requirements, mid-term exams and other educational information will be published on the board at Lecture Hall and it will also be available on the department's homepage as well as on Coospace. Detailed program and schedule of all modules are announced at the beginning of each semester but minor changes can be made by the Head of the Department.

Study requirements and knowledge testing of 5th year medical students
Pediatrics I. has three modules, namely lectures, seminars and practices.
Pediatrics II. has only two modules, namely seminars and practices (no lectures).

1. Attendance of lectures (Pediatrics I. lecture AOK ) is obligatory. Lecture will be accepted with signature at the end of the semester.
2. Attendance and active participation is required on Pediatrics Seminars (Pediatrics I Seminars AOK).
3. Active participation during the practices (Pediatrics I. practice AOK) is required. Instructors will check the attendance each time.

Only 3 absences (~20%) of the lectures/seminars/practices are allowed during one semester. Above this the semester will not be accepted. Substitution of missed practices, lectures of seminars can not be performed on the same week with another group, so group crossing is not allowed! There is no possibility to redo a missed practice/lecture/seminar at another time! If you plan to spend a part of your or whole semester and study pediatrics outside of our department you should bring an authorized, written certificate of your accomplishment at the end of the semester and you should also take a 2-step end-semester exam (bedside and consultation).

Students are obliged to bring their own stethoscope, wear a white coat, participate in a healthy general state and keep the children’s well-being in mind when performing a physical examination. Students are expected to speak basics of the Hungarian language to communicate with the parents and children. If a student fails to adhere to these rules, especially the ones regarding patients' safety, he/she may be asked to leave the hospital without the practice being signed. Patient’s safety and health is the number one priority in our institute and this has to be accepted by every student.

Knowledge will be tested three times during each semester (2 midterm exams and 1 bedside exam). An average of these grades will provide the practical grade at the end of the semester. If either of these grades shows failure (1) you will have to repeat that/those part(s) during an end-semester exam in order to acknowledge the semester. If one passes all three tests she/he will not have an end-semester exam. Retake of any exam is not possible, no excuses are accepted! Midterm tests will be in written form (assay questions, problem-based questions). All students must take the tests with their own groups, according to the published schedule. Topics: material covered in the seminars.
