Dr. Christos Plakogiannis

ao_fellow_christos_plakogiannisI am Mr Christos Plakogiannis, a Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon from Greece, practicing in the United Kingdom for the last 8 years. It was at this point of my career that I decided to travel for an AO Trauma fellowship both to update my knowledge and also to benchmark the standards of my practice against colleagues from an internationally recognised centre. I had the luck to be selected for this fellowship at the Trauma Department of the University of Szeged from the 3rd to the 28th October 2016. I had a warm welcome from the Trauma team and felt member of the “family” from the first day. Szeged is a beautiful city with lots of attractions, many places to visit and chill out and very polite people. Sports is a very important aspect of the city’s life and whoever visits should try to watch a game of the local basketball or football team.

The Trauma department utilises state of the art theatre facilities and operates cutting edge techniques for the surgical treatment of the patients. Discussions with Prof Varga, and all the members of the team were a motivation to study further as one realises that there is not only one single way to successfully treat a patient. Very important for a fellow is also the post trauma reconstruction activity of the department both in upper and lower limb by highly specialised surgeons. The 4 weeks I spent at Szeged were really fruitful and revitalising and I am very grateful for the kind hospitality of everybody in the department that made my stay so pleasant.
