2019. April 08.

Hungarian-French-American inter-institutional co-operation starts with the leadership of the SZTE, on the basis of an international consortium. It is established to develop a procedure for easier handling of nuclear waste. László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology announced that the Hungarian government is supporting the project as a national research program with HUF 3.6 billion.

The University of Szeged is ranked among the 200 best universities in the world in the latest Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, which examined the higher education, economic and social impact of the institutions. The ranking of the University of Szeged is 101-200. Whereas according to the education quality measure list, the University of Szeged is ranked the best Higher Education Institute in Hungary.

2019. April 02.

A year ago, the members of the University of Szeged were asked to help saving 300 lives together. Last year's blood donation produced an unexpected success: 171 blood donors contributed to saving 513 lives. After the extremely successful blood donations, university citizens are again asked to come and help saving lives by donating blood: on the 100th day of the year, voluntary blood donors are awaited on the 10th April at the József Attila Study and Information Centre.

Each month at the Confucius Institute of the University of Szeged, those who are interested can take part and listen to many presentations about recognized Chinese experts and representatives from China as well as successful entrepreneurs interpreting China's present, economy, society and political system.

The world’s 275 million French speaker celebrate the International Francophonie Day on the 20th of March, which is also the anniversary of the foundation of the predecessor of Francophonie and the day of the signature of Niamey Convention in 1970.

American Corner Szeged celebrates its one-year anniversary this week. Since the opening of its program office on the 21st of March 2018 at the Szent-Györgyi Albert Agora in Szeged, they have had 8,000 visitors. More than 4,000 people from Szeged attended 140 events related to the American culture, language learning and science promotion.

The University of Szeged is the best European institution on the basis of outgoing academic mobility of the programme. More than 1% of all European mobility projects were implemented by the SZTE with its more than 360 trips. Based on the outgoing student mobility the SZTE is the most active rural institution of the country.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has announced its list of worldwide best universities in the study field. The list includes several training courses at the University of Szeged.

ERCEA (European Research Council Executive Agency) delegation will visit the University of Szeged, 11 March 2019.

2019. February 18.

The University of Szeged became one of the most distinguished institutes in conducting clinical researches in the world. Thanks to the Pfizer INSPIRE Clinical Testing facility qualification, clinics in Szeged can carry out innovative tests which help patients to recover and strengthen their national health care system.

2019. February 14.

The Rotary Club Szent-Györgyi Albert Organization in Szeged donated twenty clinical beds and night cabinets to the Clinic of Neurology and the Clinic of Neurology at the Albert Szent-Györgyi Health Centre of the University of Szeged. The donations were handed over on the 31st of January 2019.

First tradition-creating exhibition, Zsófia Patyi (Patyi Photography) features 30 photos presenting Montpellier milieu.

A new collection was added to the repository of the Klebelsberg Library of the University of Szeged. The Repository of Educational Resources (ETA) is the central supporting system of electronic course materials created and developed at the University.

Many students and associates of the University of Szeged go to work by bicycles. Gábor Dávid Kiss, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Economics (GTK), who has been organizing the Critical Mass (CM) for many years, considers city cycling a good thing, and he also points out that very good tours can be done on two wheels starting from Szeged.

In the first week of the spring semester, once again the SZTE organizes an orientation week for the integration of newcomer foreign students. In the spring semester of 2018/2019 almost 150 international students arrived to the SZTE on ERASMUS +, E + International Credit Mobility and Makovecz Program.

The University of Szeged and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration represented by Péter Szakál, Director of Education and Péter Kovács, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, visitied China at the end of January 2019. During the visit, cooperation agreements with several universities have been signed.

2019. February 04.

For traditional establishment purposes, French values were in the heart of the event which took place on the 1st of February, 2019. Which among others was organized by the SZTE Francophone Center of the University of Szeged. After having discussed methods of language teaching, professionals were invited to attend first French Ball at the Tisza hotel in Szeged.

2019. January 30.

In the predecessor of the University of Szeged (SZTE), nobel Prize laureate Albert Szent-Györgyi served as a rector and dean. In his inauguration speech he explained what the mission of the University of Szeged was “How does the ‘fourth generation university of the 21st century’ correspond to the fourpart mission?” This question is answered by the summary of the interviews with the 12 deans of the 12 faculty Universitas.

Up-to-date infusion medical drug pumps were given to the Children’ Intensive Care Unit Albert Szent-Györgyi Health Centre of the University of Szeged. These devices were financed by the financial contributions of 2,1 million HUF from the III. ’Gumikacsa’ Rotary Charity Event.

2019. January 22.

For the musician brothers, István Benedekfi and Zoltán Benedekfi the University of Szeged was their Alma Mater, but today they are spreading knowledge as lecturers of the University. The young talents are associated with an own course, a unique performance style and a soundtrack nominated for Oscar.

2019. January 22.

A breakthrough has been achieved by the examination of a new type of neuron called ‘rosehip’ neuron, which has not been observed before in any kind of laboratory animals. The discovery is the result of cooperation between biologist professor Gábor Tamás and scientists of the Allen Institute for Brain Science. The single-cell based method leading to a fundamental result can be used in diagnostics.

Biologist Dávid Mucsi, graduate of the University of Szeged, spent a month doing research in Hermanus, South Africa. He observed sharks, measured their hormone levels and studied them with video traps.

Zoltán Novák MD is professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Szeged. He has not only been elected to be one of the best 100 physicians of Hungary, but he also recites in French in his free time. In their working time, they teach university students while they are in search of a remedy for incurable diseases, they create innovative inventions or explore the secrets of space.

2019. January 08.

Members of the Young Academy of Europe are in the centre of European scientific life and are even able to influence European Union policy decisions. Two recognized researchers of the University of Szeged, Csaba Janáky and Gergely Röst from the Faculty of Science and Informatics have been elected for members of YAE. The experts set out their position on open access publications, illustrating their point of view with a publication model from Szeged.

2019. January 04.

The University of Szeged improved its ’green results’ on a global and European scale as well. On the GreenMetric ranking, the SZTE moved forward from the 88th place, even though an additional 100 institutions entered the ranking by filling in the questionnaire. The SZTE was ranked the 34th place on the European list, keeping its position as the greenest Hungarian university.

Ferdous Rahman – Faculty of Law and Political Sciences

My name is Ferdous Rahman and I am from Bangladesh. I am pursuing doctoral studies at the Department of Private International Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Science under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme. Currently I am in the first year of my four-year PhD programme. I came to know about SZTE while exploring for the Stipendium Hungaricum programme. Among the other available options, this was my first choice. Apart from its excellent ranking, I got my supervisor with similar research interest. The increasing number of international students gave me a comfort of having a cosmopolitan environment. After starting my studies here in September 2019, I am convinced that I could not expect more. For prospective students, I would advise that SZTE can be their next home as I got mine. Everyone here including the professors, the administrators, and the students are very friendly and helpful. They make studies a joyous journey instead of pile of classes and books. After my graduation, I will return to my home country. The knowledge and the experience that I have been receiving here will be a great resource for my academic career. I intend to continue my research further and expect to contribute to policy formulation at national and international level."

Nikki - Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies

My name is Nikki and I am from Iran. Currently I am a second year student studying Physiotherapy at the University of Szeged. I really like the Environment of Szeged as it is a true University City where you can meet people from around the world. I consider Szeged as my second home since I have established my own path here and I have a lot of friends who make me feel home. The reason why I came to Szeged is because I was informed by one of my friends about the fact that the University degrees are EU accredited and will help me to reach my goals and open doors for future job opportunities. Once I have obtained my degree, I would like to stay in Hungary and pursue a post graduate program. Later on I will seize the opportunity to gain some job experience in my field here in Hungary before I hold my ground in Europe.
