The University of Szeged improved its ’green results’ on a global and European scale as well. On the GreenMetric ranking, the SZTE moved forward from the 88th place, even though an additional 100 institutions entered the ranking by filling in the questionnaire. The SZTE was ranked the 34th place on the European list, keeping its position as the greenest Hungarian university.
According to GreenMetric ranking, out of 719 higher educational institution from 81 countries, the University of Szeged is the 77th greenest university. The popularity of the ranking issued the University of Indonesia is increasing: while 95 institutions from 34 countries joined the ranking in 2010, seven years later 619 universities responded from 76 countries in 2017. The University of Szeged has always been among the top 25% of the ranked institutions, thus the SZTE precedes 89% of the ranked institutions.
The University of Szeged was ranked the 34th greenest university, except for one Russian university, only Western and Northern European universities were ranked ahead. The University of Szeged won the ’green competition’ with an overwhelming advantage with its 77th place and a score of 7050. Among Hungarian universities, the University of Pécs was ranked the 140th on international scale and the third among Hungarians were Eötvös Loránd University being awarded with the 264th place.
The categories of the green questionnaire remained the same: location and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste and water management, traffic and education. The SZTE is still the best in waste management as the institution received 92% of the total score. Further measures are planned to be taken in terms of energy management and infrastructural modernization.
