How to get to Szeged

Szeged is located in the southern part of Hungary, approximately 175 km (108 miles) from the capital, Budapest.

International flights to Hungary primarily arrive at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (Terminal 2A is for flights from Schengen destinations and Terminal 2B is for flights from non-Schengen destinations). The airport is located approximately 16 km southeast of Budapest city center.

By shuttle:

The easiest and fastest way to travel from the international airport to Szeged is by shuttle service. Several companies offer shuttle services between Szeged and the airport. Below are a few suggestions:

By Train:

Taking the train is a slower but cheaper option.

Trains to Szeged depart from Budapest Nyugati Railway Station (“Western” Railway Station). The nearest railway stop to the airport is Ferihegy Railway Station (Hungarian: Ferihegy vasútállomás), which is accessible by the 200E bus, which operates day and night.

Tickets can be purchased on the bus by credit card, at BKK Centre for Budapest Transport customer service points at airport terminals 2A and 2B, or from BKK ticket vending machines at the bus stops. Please make sure to have some Hungarian Forint with you (currency exchange services are available at the airport). By choosing this route, you can avoid traveling into the center of Budapest and save a considerable amount of time.

At the Ferihegy vasútállomás stop, use the overpass to reach the platform. The platform further away from the road is the one for trains heading to Szeged. You can purchase railway tickets online or from the ticket vending machines. The journey takes approximately two and a half hours. Trains usually depart once every hour from morning until night.

If you arrive in Budapest by other means of transport, take a train from Nyugati Pályaudvar (“Western” Railway Station). Please note that contrary to it’s name, the train station not located in the western part of the city.

Between the airport and the city center, there is the 100E direct bus service for those who would like to visit Budapest. It takes you to Deák Ferenc Square in the heart of the city, from where Nyugati Railway Station can be reached by public transport or by a 20-minute walk.

By Car:

Toll roads in Hungary may only be used with a pre-purchased road-use authorization, which is an e-vignette. Take the M5 highway to reach Szeged.
