EHIC

EHIC

According to the European Union law, citizens from EEA countries are subjects to free medical care in emergency cases or if treatment becomes necessary during their visit abroad (for example, due to illness or an accident), provided they have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) at hand from an EEA member home country. Cards are issued by your national health insurance provider. Please check out the benefits covered here.

The EHIC can only be used in the framework of public health care provision.

In most cases primary care is provided by the general practitioner (GP) designated to the district of residence. On the following website you can check who your designated general practitioner is. (Go to Orvosi Körzet kereső 2021, click “Háziorvos”, which is Hungarian for GP and unclick the rest, choose your street from the drop-down menu below, and then click the “Keres” button).

As the insurance only covers necessary treatment, we strongly recommend our students to get an addition insurance, like Generali Studium Health Insurance.
