While the construction of BYD’s factory in Szeged is still underway, the company – one of the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturers – has already begun recruiting future employees. In collaboration with BYD, the University of Szeged plays a pivotal role in identifying the right talent, with the company’s HR team joining final exam boards at the Faculty of Engineering to scout for promising candidates.
With 150–200 industrial partnerships across both domestic and international sectors, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged boasts a strong connection with industry. The faculty’s administration is committed to further strengthening these partnerships to support the continuous development of high-quality education and ensure that students earn degrees aligned with market demands. In pursuit of this goal, the Faculty of Engineering invited representatives from BYD Szeged, among others, to attend their final exams in January 2025.
These events provide company representatives with a valuable opportunity to assess the faculty’s educational efforts through insights gained from students. They also serve as an excellent platform for fostering connections between businesses and graduating students. In fact, it is not uncommon for students at the Faculty of Engineering to receive attractive job offers from participating companies immediately after their final exams.
“Bringing in our corporate partners for final exam boards is a well-established tradition at our faculty. The professionals attending these exams not only evaluate students’ preparedness but also assess their potential to thrive as engineers in a corporate environment. This is especially relevant for BYD, as their HR team is looking for additional key competencies in candidates, extending beyond technical expertise. Following the final exams, job interviews were also conducted – and we are pleased to report that representatives from this global company expressed their full satisfaction with what they observed,” said Prof. Dr. József Sárosi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged, who emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties between industry and academia.
BYD representatives expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to take part in the final exams at the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Engineering and to meet the promising engineering talents of tomorrow. They reaffirmed the company’s commitment to recruiting the most qualified and skilled new colleagues to contribute to a sustainable future. They also highlighted that BYD is looking for employees who are open-minded, culturally aware, fluent in English, and possess excellent negotiation skills, while being genuinely passionate about the electric vehicle industry. Furthermore, the representatives voiced their admiration for the exceptional professional standards upheld by the Faculty of Engineering, as well as the students' impressive level of preparedness, which they found truly inspiring.
