The Annual Meeting of the Insitut Pasteur International Network was held between 19th-22nd November 2023 in Tunis, organized by the Institut Pasteur of Tunis. Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, the Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning and Prof. Dr. Ildikó Csóka, the Director-General for Strategy and Development represented the University of Szeged at the meeting.
As we reported earlier, the University of Szeged signed a framework agreement with the Institut Pasteur of Paris in April this year. The annual meeting provided an excellent opportunity for the representatives of the university to simultaneously meet the leaders of all the units of the network, the representatives of the cooperative partners, and the senior management and administrative staff of the network and the foundation behind it.

At the annual Meeting, the University of Szeged was represented by Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, the Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning and Prof. Dr. Ildikó Csóka, the Director-General for Strategy and Development. This year, the main focus of the event was on global priorities, including contagious diseases that appeared recently –often as a result of or in connection with the climate change and damaged biodiversity –, R&D&I ecosystem, epidemic intelligence, antimicrobial resistance, and the general welfare of mothers and children.
Among the central subjects of sessions and roundtable discussions were the goals and objectives of the network and the expansion of R&D&I. Another core subject was the development of space for multidisciplinary knowledge communities (such as training and education programs, career paths) that enhance learning and cooperation. Young researchers from the four regions of the network also had the opportunity to introduce themselves and to present their research respectively.

Every year, the annual meeting gathers most of the members of the Institut Pasteur International Network and the experts from scientific and public health institutions, multilateral organizations, NGOs, and charities and foundations dedicated to science and public health.
The delegation from the University of Szeged managed to contact almost all the representatives of the Institut Pasteur. These extremely beneficial talks may hopefully mark the start of new cooperations in the near future.
