Ongoing Progress has Brought a Prestigious Award to the SZTE International Office for Full time Scholarship Programmes

The title of International Coordinator of the Year 2022 was also awarded at the 1st Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme Coordinators' Meeting organised by the Tempus Public Foundation in Székesfehérvár. At the prestigious event, Dr. Leona Kovács-Jerney, Head of the International Office for Full time Scholarship Programmes of the Directorate for International Affairs and Public Relations, University of Szeged, was awarded the title of International Coordinator of the year.

The Tempus Public Foundation and the Study in Hungary Directorate, responsible for the implementation of scholarship programmes, organised a new event in Székesfehérvár for the participants involved in the implementation of scholarship programmes, especially institutional coordinators, to facilitate the networking of colleagues. The aim of the 1st Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme Coordinators' Meeting was to create an opportunity for institutional networking.

One of the keys to the successful implementation of the Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme is for participants to share their experiences and academic good practice.

The 2022 International Coordinator and the institution he/she represents were honoured at the event's gala dinner. The award is always given to an institution with a high level of coordinating activity. The award is also based on the students' assessment of the international office's operations, services and student satisfaction with the institution.

In awarding this prestigious prize, it was important to the Foundation that the award should be given to an institution that has achieved consistently good results over the past years.

In light of this, it is even more significant that Dr Leona Kovács-Jerney, Head of the International Office for Full time Scholarship Programmes, University of Szeged, won the International Coordinator Award.

At the award ceremony, Gábor Dobos, Director of Study in Hungary, said that "Leona has been a long-standing member of the University of Szeged, where she has gained a lot of experience in the field of international student advocacy as the head of ESN and as the head of the International Office for Full time Scholarship Programmes. Her empathic skills and excellent relationship with international students have led to her being awarded this year as the Coordinator of the Year 2022.

The Director of Study in Hungary also added that working with the staff of the International Office of the University of Szeged, he has a very helpful and cheerful team to work with, which has contributed to the efficient and successful cooperation between TPF and SZTE. In addition, it has improved its results every year, with a continuous and significant increase in the number of scholarship holders who have expressed their opinions.

- "It is a great honour that SZTE has brought the award this year. In 2019, the staff of the International Mobility Office was honoured by the TPF. I believe that this is one of the greatest awards I could receive in my profession and I know that without the enthusiastic and persistent work of my team, this would not have been possible." Said Dr. Leona Kovács-Jerney about the award.

Nikki - Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies

My name is Nikki and I am from Iran. Currently I am a second year student studying Physiotherapy at the University of Szeged. I really like the Environment of Szeged as it is a true University City where you can meet people from around the world. I consider Szeged as my second home since I have established my own path here and I have a lot of friends who make me feel home. The reason why I came to Szeged is because I was informed by one of my friends about the fact that the University degrees are EU accredited and will help me to reach my goals and open doors for future job opportunities. Once I have obtained my degree, I would like to stay in Hungary and pursue a post graduate program. Later on I will seize the opportunity to gain some job experience in my field here in Hungary before I hold my ground in Europe.

Hamza Baniata – Faculty of Science and Informatics

I am Hamza Baniata, a first-year student at the Doctoral School of Computer Science, and I am From Jordan. SZTE is continuously supporting research and it has an internationally recognized, highly ranked group of professors. It also offers courses and research topics that are strongly related to my research field; Cloud Computing, Fog Computing and Internet of Things. All of this motivated me to apply to the University/Department of Software Engineering. Szeged is a calm city, full of love and peace. The University of Szeged is similar to the city, which provides the perfect environment for creation and development. Studying at the university requires a high level of effort, commitment and seriousness. Applying to the university and having these characteristics are my two pieces of advice to prospective students. It is very early to define my future now, but I am planning to apply to a research position in my field after graduation and if I had the opportunity, I would love to contribute my effort and knowledge in advancing such a wonderful and respected university.
