Researchers from Szeged has also submitted their application as a member of the international EUGLOH group for the #EUvsVIRUS challenge hackathon organized by the European Commission.

Between the 24th and 26th April 2020, #EUvsVIRUS challenge organized by the European Commission will be held on which common groups from EUGLOH-member universities are entitled to participate. In addition to the University of Szeged as a member, Paris-Saclay University of France, Lund University of Sweden, the University of Porto of Portugal and Ludwig-Mmaximilian University of German will jointly demonstrate how this project on global health can contribute to the treatment of the pandemia.

The team which is made up of six smaller units "sub-teams" carry the EUGLOH name, however, they represent the most diverse fields of science. Among the denominators are, for example, those who deal with the challenges of distance learning, dealing with the spread of false news and those who deal with the protective equipment. The University of Szeged as a member of the EUGLOH association, also nominated a team for the virtual Hackathon.

The team of three people, upon the recommendation of Dr. Gergely Röst, the leader of the research group, is researching the spread of the coronavirus epidemic based on fictive data using mathematical models.

The following employees of the Bolyai Institute participate in the team, who are assisted in the preparation by the mentors of the SZTE Virtus Program, Miklós Tóth and Sándor Huszár.

  • Péter Boldog, physicist and biologist PhD student
  • Dr. Zsolt Vizi, research associate, mathematician.
  • Norbert Bogya, research assistant, mathematician

The research project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology National Research, Development and Innovation Fund based on a grant agreement with the National Research, Development and Innovation Office.
