In this year's survey, 780 higher education institutions have been examined by the rank creators. The popularity of the Indonesian University top list is steadily increasing, with 95 institutions responding to the first call in 2010, and 780 universities in 2019.

Since its inception, the University of Szeged has been at the forefront of green universities. The institution has been performing worldwide since 2012 and is in the top 20% at European level. The proportion of universities overtaken by SZTE has improved from 86% to 90% last year.

In second place, the University of Pécs placed 100th in the international rankings, and the University of Debrecen ranked 202nd in the international list. There is a score difference of 350 points between SZTE and the second best Hungarian institution, and 5450 points compared to the last-ranked Hungarian university.

The six themes of the Green Questionnaire have remained the same for years: location and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water management, transport and education. Out of these themes, energy and climate change have the largest weigh of (21%) and water management the least (10%).

The University of Szeged continues to attach great importance to the intensive use of renewable energy sources, to the development of student-centred programs and to the reduction of energy demand. The goals for the next period include the development of e-mobility and the implementation of technical investments that will reduce the need for additional energy by using renewable energy sources.

In July 2019, GreenMetric ranking experts attended workshops and institutional visits organized by two of Hungary's greenest universities (SZTE and PTE), thus strengthening international cooperation in sharing good practices.

SZTE Experience

HardeepHardeep Kaur - Faculty of Sciences and Informatics - Biology PhD

Many of my Indian friends had already been studying here, and SZTE was very popular among them because of its quality education, research and the international community. Without any doubt I submitted my application for Biology PhD. Now, this city serves second home to me: beautiful, clean and modern at the same time carrying its ethnicity. Once I leave the city, I will miss everything about Szeged especially my friends and workplace.

My first impression about Szeged was, that it is „a standard lovely Western city. You can see colourful buildings everywhere; enjoy the sunshine, walk in the nature, study in the bright, high-tech library”. I think this is a perfect place for students where they can experience sparkling culture diversity, enjoy the peacefulness of everyday life, meet a lot of kind and motivating people, enjoy the inspiring academic atmosphere, taste the food not only from Hungary but also from the world. I can call Szeged my second home.
