170 Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders arrive at University of Szeged

Enrolment to Stipendium Hungaricum (SH) continues to grow this semester: out of 780 applicants, 170 freshmen arrive to start their studies in Szeged in the AY 2016-2017.


Owing to the University’s productive international activities and expanding social networks, the number of SH applicants has increased: more than 780 young adults have been interested in a program of SZTE’s. In the last academic year 90 first year scholarship holders (out of 300 applicants) started their studies, while this year 170 scholarship holders are to arrive first time to SZTE.

 

74% of the new Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders are coming from Asia, 18% from Africa, 5% from South-America, 3% from Europe. They applied to the programs of economics, natural sciences, general medicine, pharmacy, international relations, humanities and musical art. Different kinds of mobility exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, CEEPUS, Erasmus Mundus has provided the chance of enrolment for a total of 650 foreign scholars. Including 6,700 Hungarian freshmen, the institute keeps count of 7,400 new students involved.

 

The scholarship holders were welcomed by Vice Rector for International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Katalin Nagy. She emphasized that Szeged would serve as second home of the foreigners, and the city is rated in the top 10 university towns on the list of Condé Nest Traveler. Besides of quality education and safe, student-friendly life, Szeged also provides excellent facilities to entertainment and recreation. She underlined the increase in the number of foreign students, as they represent 10% of 25,000 students of the university. 12 faculties offer 47 different types of full-time programmes, from general medicine to musical arts.

 

Participating in the governmental scholarship program of Stipendium Hungaricum the University of Szeged supports the ’eastern opening’ policy promoting the Hungarian Higher Education internationally, ensuring the increasing number of international students and enriching the international relations of the Hungarian scientific elite. Furthermore, the program also lays the foundation of personal and professional relations between the international students and Hungary.
