
The University of Szeged achieved outstanding results across multiple academic and scientific fields in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject. The institution was ranked among the world’s top universities in 3 broad disciplines and 7 subject areas, achieving a top-three position within Hungary in each of them. The University has also maintained stable standings across several categories, both nationally and globally.
In this year’s assessment, QS, one of the world’s most prestigious higher education ranking organizations, reviewed more than 1,700 institutions from over 100 countries, covering 5 broad disciplines and 55 narrower subject areas.
The University of Szeged has once again reinforced its leading position among Hungarian higher education institutions, including in two disciplines within the broader field of life sciences and medicine. It secured the highest ranking among Hungarian universities in biological sciences and shares first place nationally in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
In the overall life sciences and medicine category, SZTE is ranked 451–500 globally. Within this broad field, the University also delivered strong results in several individual subject areas. In addition to pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences (251–300) and biological sciences (451–500), SZTE ranked 401–450 worldwide in medicine and placed between 401 and 475 in agriculture and forestry.
The University of Szeged’s strong performance extends well beyond life sciences and medicine. SZTE continues to hold its place in the global 451–500 bracket in the arts and humanities, while also remaining in the 501–550 range in the natural sciences, including chemistry. In mathematics, also within this broad field, the University retained its global position from last year in the 501–600 range. It also delivered solid results in engineering and technology, where it is ranked 651–700 worldwide in computer science and information systems.
The QS rankings are compiled using five key indicators. University positions are determined on the basis of responses from more than 200,000 employers and academics surveyed by QS, as well as metrics such as citations per paper, the h-index, and the international scope and effectiveness of research collaborations.
