On January 30, 2026, the University of Szeged conferred habilitation titles and PhD diplomas at a formal ceremony held in the congress hall of the József Attila Study and Information Center. Addressing the audience, Klára Gellén, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, summarized the statistics of the proceedings. She announced that the University’s Habilitation Committee had awarded 10 habilitated doctor titles – 2 in medical and pharmaceutical sciences, 3 in the humanities and social sciences, and 5 in the natural and engineering sciences. She went on to say that the University Doctoral Council had conferred 112 PhD degrees, including 48 in medical and pharmaceutical sciences, 31 in the humanities and social sciences, and 33 in the natural and engineering sciences.

The diplomas were awarded in the presence of SZTE’s Doctoral Degree Conferral Council by Prof. Dr. Klára Gellén, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Szeged; Prof. Dr. Zoltán Gyenge, Chair of the University Doctoral Council; and Prof. Dr. Attila Gácser, Chair of the University Habilitation Committee. The members of the Doctoral Degree Conferral Council included Dr. Zoltán Gyenge, Chair of the SZTE Doctoral Council; Dr. Norbert Merkovity, Conferring Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences; Dr. Mariann Fekete, Conferring Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Benedek Nagy, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration; Dr. Zsolt Szakonyi, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Dr. József Maléth, Conferring Dean of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School; and Dr. Tamás Papp, Conferring Dean of the Faculty of Science and Informatics.
Prior to the presentation of the diplomas, the audience enjoyed a violin duo performance by
Ferenc Szecsődi, a faculty member of SZTE’s Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts, and his student
Alexandra Ürmös. They performed the
Grand Duo Concertante by Charles de Bériot, setting a fittingly celebratory tone for the event.

Following the presentation of the habilitation titles, Dr. Diána Nyári, speaking on behalf of the PhD candidates, formally requested that the Doctoral Degree Conferral Council admit them as Doctors of Philosophy. She then led the recitation of the doctoral oath in both Hungarian and English, which was repeated by the other candidates:
