On March 11–12, 2026, the University of Szeged hosted its international high school counselors’ event, welcoming guidance counselors from several countries. Participants gained insight into the University’s foreign-language degree programs, as well as the academic, cultural, and student-life opportunities available in Szeged. The program was designed to help counselors provide prospective international students with accurate, up-to-date, and reliable information about studying at SZTE.

SZTE’s recent international high school counselors’ event brought together guidance counselors from internationally recognized and accredited institutions – professionals who play a key role in shaping students’ higher education choices. Organized by the University’s Office for International Academic Programs within the Directorate for International Affairs and Public Relations, the program was designed to introduce both the University and the city through direct, firsthand experience. In this way, it sought to encourage more students to choose SZTE as their study abroad destination. Participants included representatives from institutions in Malta, Kazakhstan, Denmark, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia.

During the two-day session, participants attended interactive presentations offering a detailed overview of the University’s academic programs, scholarship opportunities, and admissions system. They also had the opportunity to meet faculty members, creating space for in-depth conversations and professional networking. In addition, the counselors visited some of the University’s and the city’s most iconic locations, gaining a direct sense of Szeged’s vibrant academic and cultural atmosphere. The program also included visits to the ELI-ALPS Laser Research Institute and the skills labs of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School at the University of Szeged.

The meeting also served as a valuable professional forum, providing participants with the opportunity to share experiences, exchange best practices, and explore new approaches to strengthening student support.

The University of Szeged’s international outlook is reflected not only in initiatives such as its international high school counselors’ event, but also in its accession to the Council of International Schools (CIS) network in 2024. By joining this global community of international secondary schools and universities, SZTE has further reinforced its commitment to excellence in international education and to expanding its global reach.
