On January 24, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged held its 2026 Open Day, welcoming visitors from 9:30 a.m. in the faculty’s main building. Participants interested in the Industrial Product and Design Engineering program were first introduced to the Creative Lab, where they gained insight into both the theoretical background and the practical implementation of design processes. As a special highlight, visitors also received a complimentary keychain produced on site in the lab during the event.
Engineering programs showcased in parallel sessions
From 10:00 a.m., lecture halls across the faculty were filled with attendees. The information session on engineering programs – Industrial Product and Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Agricultural and Food Industry Machinery Engineering, and Engineering Management – held in Lecture Hall No. III, drew a full house, with nearly every seat occupied. At the same time, the smaller lecture hall hosted a session for prospective Food Engineering students, who were provided with information on the Food Engineering program.

“The strong turnout at today’s event confirms that interest in engineering careers remains high. Our goal is to offer not only a degree, but also competitive, high-quality professional knowledge and a secure career pathway. We are especially pleased that many prospective students attended together with their parents, as career decisions are often made at the family level. The faculty is therefore committed to providing comprehensive professional guidance throughout this process,” said Prof. Dr. József Sárosi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged, commenting on the faculty’s Open Day.
Hands-on laboratory experiences: From robotics to chocolate making
Laboratory tours proved to be among the most popular elements of this year’s Open Day. During the presentation titled “Who Inhabit Our Food?”, prospective Food Engineering students took part in interactive learning activities using microscopes, while also expanding their knowledge through examples drawn from everyday life. This was followed by a visit to Building D, where participants were introduced to the scientific background of chocolate making.
At the same time, visitors interested in technical fields joined guided group tours, during which they observed the Robotics Laboratory in operation and explored the Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems Laboratory, as well as the Control Engineering and CAE Laboratories.
Career development in focus: Dual and cooperative programs
The Open Day concluded with a professional discussion session, during which representatives of the faculty’s dual education partner companies, together with staff members of the Engineering Dual Education Center, were available to answer questions. Participants received first-hand information from industry representatives on the benefits of gaining professional experience alongside university studies, as well as on how dual and cooperative programs support a smooth transition into the labor market after graduation.
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged thanks all participants for attending the 2026 Open Day and looks forward to welcoming future students in the academic year beginning this September.
