The 3rd International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics took place between September 23 and 27, 2025, at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where the delegation of the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Engineering made a stellar impression.

The University of Szeged’s Faculty of Engineering was represented at the 3rd International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics by Professor István Bíró, former dean of the Faculty, and College Associate Professor István Péter Szabó from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Professor Bíró delivered a presentation titled “New numerical procedure for determination of elastic curve of statically determinate and indeterminate beams with variable cross sections,” while Dr. Szabó presented his poster entitled “Design of a Portable Cooler and Dispensing Equipment.”

The organizers brought together a broad range of presentations and posters covering various areas within mechanics and dynamics, including vibration theory, nonlinear dynamics, tribology, robot dynamics, space technology, and the application of artificial intelligence in multibody dynamics.

Advancing international research on vibration-based mechanical systems

The event had a few pleasant surprises in store for the Szeged delegation. The first of these came with the appointment of Prof. Dr. István Bíró as Vice-Chair of the ISMSD Committee on Vibration-Based Diagnosis of Mechanical Systems for the next three years. The ISMSD (International Society of Mechanical System Dynamics) is a global scientific, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing research in mechanical system dynamics. Its mission is to promote scientific and technological progress, strengthen international collaboration, and support industrial innovation through cutting-edge research and practical applications in the field.

Celebrating innovation: The best poster award

The international conference featured a wide range of poster presentations, with the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Engineering also showcasing its scientific achievements. Among the many impressive contributions, the second pleasant surprise for the Szeged delegation came when Dr. István Péter Szabó’s research was honored with the Best Poster Award, attesting to the innovative spirit and professional excellence that characterize the work carried out at the Faculty. Together with Benedek Honfi, Dr. Szabó designed a portable beverage cooler. “We developed a portable beverage cooler in collaboration with Benedek Honfi, a certified mechanical engineer. Our joint publication and poster detailed the thermal calculations and structural analyses performed on the device,” explained Dr. Szabó.
