The 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings place the University of Szeged at the forefront of Hungarian higher education in two subject areas: Chemistry and Neuroscience & Behavior.
Each year, the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities ranking assesses 2,250 institutions from over 100 countries, using 13 indicators to measure research performance and academic reputation. This comprehensive list showcases the top universities around the world, highlights Europe’s strongest institutions, and presents subject-specific results as well.
In the most recent list, the University of Szeged secured overall third place in Hungary, reaffirming its position among the country’s leading universities for 2025. In addition, it leads nationally in two academic fields: in Chemistry, it rose from second place last year to claim the top spot, while continuing to hold first place in Neuroscience & Behavior. SZTE also made significant progress in Biology and Biochemistry, rising to second place nationally, and ranks second in Hungary in both Pharmacology & Toxicology and Physical Chemistry. Moreover, SZTE has strengthened its national standing in Clinical Medicine as well, where it ranks third among Hungarian institutions.
On the global stage, the University of Szeged holds a strong position, placing it firmly within the upper third of the world’s leading universities. Its subject-specific performance reflects this strength as well, with Chemistry and Neuroscience & Behavior standing out as areas of particular excellence. Meanwhile, SZTE’s progress in fields such as Biology and Biochemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physical Chemistry, and Clinical Medicine further underlines its growing international recognition and consistent research impact across multiple disciplines.
