The 30th Congress of the Hungarian Society of Hematology and Transfusiology was held in Szeged, from May 22 to 24.
The 30th Congress of the Hungarian Society of Hematology and Transfusiology was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning at the University of Szeged. The scientific and organizing committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Zita Borbényi, Head of the Center for Hematology at the Department of Internal Medicine.
A total of 629 participants registered for the 2025 conference, which offered a comprehensive program covering clinical hematology, transfusiology, and genetics. The event featured 23 lectures, 72 presentations, and 54 posters, reflecting the vibrant exchange of ideas and showcasing cutting-edge research in these vital fields.
The guest of honor, Prof. Konstanze Döhner, President-Elect of the European Hematology Association (EHA) and a renowned expert from Germany, delivered an inspiring presentation highlighting the Association’s extensive activities, innovative research initiatives, and comprehensive educational programs.
One of the focal points of the event was the international forum of young hematologists, “Young EHA,” where experts from Hungary and neighboring countries presented their research. Prominent speakers included Marek Trneny from the Czech Republic, Bartosz Puła from Poland, and Csaba Bödör and Viktor Lakatos from Hungary.
The invited speakers included Prof. Torsten Haferlach, member of the executive management of the MLL Munich Leukemia Laboratory, and Prof. Roman Hajek, Head of the Czech Myeloma Group.
The team from SZTE’s Hematology Center at the Department of Internal Medicine played a pivotal role in organizing the event. They were actively involved in both the preparation and the successful execution of the conference. Several members served as session chairs – Nóra Adamkovich, Zita Borbényi, Tímea Gurbity Pálfi, Henrietta Lunk, Imelda Marton, Szabolcs Modok, and Klára Piukovics – and contributed to the conference’s success by delivering lectures (Imelda Marton, Ádám Ónodi, Benedek Rónaszéki), giving oral presentations (Krisztina Kárpáti, Regina Zsigmond), and presenting posters (Beáta Hegedűsné Juszku, Csilla Szabó-Marton). Their efforts significantly elevated the program and fostered an engaging scientific environment.
The conference was further complemented by a dedicated Hematology Healthcare Staff Conference, which brought together 92 healthcare professionals. This specialized forum provided an excellent opportunity to share experiences, enhance professional skills, and contribute to the improvement of hematology care.
During the general assembly of the Hungarian Society of Hematology and Transfusiology (MHTT), Imelda Marton, Head of the Department of Transfusiology at the University of Szeged, was elected Secretary General. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Zita Borbényi and Szabolcs Modok were re-elected to serve on the Society’s Executive Board, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to advancing the field.
