Among the participants, there were PhD students from Hungary, interns of Stipendium Hungaricum from all over the world, and PhD students and researchers from doctoral schools of partner universities – in total, more than 80 researchers from 13 universities and 12 countries.

Prof. Dr. Piroska Révész, professor emeritus of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Regulatory Affairs greeted the participants in the name of the Scientific Committee on 24th January. In her opening address, she told that the Institute organized 5 successful symposia in the past and they wish the event to become a tradition. The aim of the 6th symposium is unceasingly to grow familiar with the works of Hungarian and international PhD students and that these students shall learn the basic principles of presentation and scientific discourse. The acquisition of these skills is essential to mobility programs, conferences, publications and, later, to defending one’s doctoral thesis.

- The symposium provides an excellent opportunity for students to receive feedback on their theses, thus improving the quality of their papers and increasing their skills to present their ideas in front of a professional audience. Furthermore, it provides an outstanding chance to expand one’s social network and to acquire invaluable professional relations – said Prof. Dr. Judit Hohmann, professor of the University’s Department of Pharmacognosy (Faculty of Pharmacy).

Prof. Dr. István Zupkó, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, emphasized that the symposium is one of the main events of the faculty as the most excellent researchers and professors of the future make their appearance here bringing exciting topics into the discourse.

The opening ceremony was followed by a plenary session. Dr. Zsolt Geretovszky, the Professional Supervisor of the 3D Centre gave a presentation on the basic principles of 3D printing and its potential use in Pharmacology and Pharmacy. He talked about what can be 3D printed and how, including different printing techniques. He explained that certain techniques are already used for printing medicines.
