Nobel Prize-winning research professor Dr. Katalin Karikó visits SZTE

Dr. Katalin Karikó, research professor and winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for inventing the modified messenger RNA used in modern Covid19 vaccines, visits her alma mater on 12 October.

The world-famous scientist will be greeted in front of the Dugonics Square building of the University of Szeged on Thursday, 12 October 2023 at 1:15 p.m. by representatives of the university, the county and the city: Prof. Dr. Gábor Szabó, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Szeged, Prof. Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged, Dr. Judit Fendler, Chancellor of the University of Szeged, Dr. László Salgó, Government Commissioner of Csongrád-Csanád County and Dr. László Botka, Mayor of the City of Szeged.

The ceremony organised in honour of Dr. Katalin Karikó will start in the Ceremonial Hall of the Rector's Building at 2 p.m. Those interested can follow the events on the projector set up at the Dugonics Square or on the Facebook page of the University of Szeged.

The Nobel Prize-winning research professor of the University of Szeged will hold a seminar for university students at JATE Club from 5:15 p.m. This talk will give an insight into the secrets of the Karikó method, the aim of her research, the secret of her success, the processing of experimental results and the possibilities of expanding one’s scientific network. The discussion will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of the University of Szeged. The closing event will be a festive walk from JATE Club to Dóm Square at 7 p.m., and anyone interested is welcome to join!
