Delegation from Tianjin visited the University of Szeged

A five-member delegation from Tianjin University visited the University of Szeged on 15 December, 2023. The main purpose of the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the two universities, from which both institutions can benefit in the long run.

A five-member delegation from Tianjin University arrived at the University of Szeged on the morning of 15 December. The delegation was represented by Prof. Hu Wenping, Executive Vice-President of Tianjin University, as well as Prof. Zhang Junyan, Director of the Office of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Hu Qinghua, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation, Prof. Weng Zhe, Deputy Dean of the Office of Human Resource and Prof. Zhou Yan, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology.

Tianjin University is one of the top public universities in China, occupying significant places in international rankings. Established in 1895, it is the first modern university in China. The university offers a wide range of educational programmes in almost all fields of study, including engineering, natural sciences, computer science, business administration, law, pharmacy, foreign languages, etc.

In the first part of the meeting, the delegation from Tianjin visited the József Attila Study and Information Centre (TIK), where they were shown the university library, namely the SZTE Klebelsberg Library. After the library tour, they were invited to the Rector’s Office for a formal meeting with the leaders of the University of Szeged.

At the Rector’s Office they were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning, Prof. Dr. Péter Zakar, Vice-Rector for International and Public Relations, Dr. Tamás Bene, Director for International Affairs and Public Relations and colleagues from the Office for International Cooperation and Admission, Dr. Előd Sándor Szabó, head of Office and Rebeka Fodor-Kozma, International Expert.

In their welcome speeches, Prof. Dr. Péter Zakar and Prof. Dr. Márta Széll greeted the representatives of Tianjin University and highlighted the importance of international relations.

— It is our pleasure to welcome you here. The University of Szeged is always open to establishing international relations with other higher education institutions —emphasised Prof. Dr. Márta Széll.

The Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning further stated that Chinese relations are especially important for the University of Szeged.

—We even have a Confucius Institute here in Szeged which runs in cooperation with the university—she added.

After the welcome speeches, the university representatives gave an introductory presentation about their institution.

During the formal meeting, the management of SZTE emphasised their intention to cooperate in the future.

As it turned out from the presentations, the two universities offer similar study programmes in several fields, such as engineering, computer science, business administration, pharmacy, natural sciences as well as foreign languages. It would therefore be worthwhile to cooperate in these areas in the future.

The two universities intend to start the cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding in the near future.
