The Times Higher Education compiles its annual Impact Rankings based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. The University of Szeged ranked highly in the recent list: It ranked first in the overall ranking, tying with two other Hungarian universities. In addition, it has achieved podium position in all categories, and in ten of them it was also ranked first among Hungarian institutions.
THE Impact Rankings by Times Higher Education, launched in 2019, measures the third mission of the world's higher education institutions. Furthermore, it analyzes the economic and social impact, and responsibility of universities based on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, the University of Szeged is ranked first in the THE overall ranking, tying with two other Hungarian universities and 401st-600th in the international rankings.
Although this year the number of ranked institutions has increased by about 300 (1406), SZTE’s results in the 17 thematic rankings are excellent too. The Tisza-coast Universitas has maintained its international position in several categories. These include: No poverty, Good health and well-being, Affordable and clean energy, Industry, innovation, infrastructure, Peace, justice and strong institutions. At the international level, SZTE improved in several categories compared to the last year’s ranking, such as Sustainable Cities and Communities. Meanwhile, it also performed strongly in the national field, finishing on the podium in all categories with ten first, four second and three third places.
The outstanding results achieved in the rankings also demonstrate the commitment of the University of Szeged to achieve the goals set by the United Nations, whether it is the educational, research and service activities undertaken in order to enhance the well-being of the social environment, the dissemination of knowledge, the preservation of human, social, cultural and environmental values, social, economic, environmental responsibility, or the promotion of sustainable development.
