SZTE Enhancing International Relations in Sweden

The University of Szeged is participating in the EUGLOH event in Lund, Sweden, from 9 to 12 May 2022. Representatives from the five European university associations share their experience, this time focusing on marketing, communication and possible new joint projects.

The European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) is a strategic partnership between the Université Paris-Saclay (UPSaclay), the University of Lund (LU), the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), the Universidade do Porto (UPorto) and the University of Szeged (SZTE). The network enables students, teachers, researchers and staff of the higher education institutions concerned to collaborate in a number of areas. The primary objective of the organisation is to coordinate interdisciplinary activities, particularly in education and training in global health. New opportunities can be opened up, such as joint professional projects and the use of scientific infrastructure in areas such as biomedicine, life sciences and social sciences. The inter-university project also addresses a number of challenges related to well-being and public health.

In the framework of the cooperation, the universities in the alliance also organise joint conferences on different themes. The University of Szeged hosted the most recent EUGLOH Staff Week, where Barbara Oakley, a world-renowned expert on education, was one of the keynote speakers.

This week's EUGLOH Staff Week is hosted by the University of Lund, Sweden.

As part of the event, for the third year running, an international "Alliance Day" will be held to bring the five partner universities together to celebrate the unity and community that has existed for three years. The theme of the hybrid (face-to-face and virtual) English-language event is "Five Universities, One Community". Its objective is to reach out to and bring together all university citizens of the Federation on 11 May 2022, through a diverse range of community and cultural activities organised by the partner universities. Anyone can participate in the virtual event, but registration is required. The detailed programme and registration form are available here.

In addition to students from the University of Szeged, several staff members from relevant departments of the University of Szeged have travelled to Sweden to participate in discussions and lectures on potential inter-university partnerships, marketing and communication practices.

Participants expect to make significant progress in a number of areas: deepening personal working relationships, sharing good practices and learning about the internationalisation strategy of the University of Lund. University of Szeged staff will also work on expanding the international network of contacts in Lund.

The results and experiences of the event will be reported on the website and Facebook profile of the University of Szeged.

SZTE Experience

Ahmad Adha - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

I am Ahmad Adha from Indonesia and currently a 3rd year student in Theoretical Linguistics PhD program. I chose the University of Szeged (SZTE) as my study destination because it is located in the center of the town and it is also the highest ranked university in Hungary. The university staff and the professors were very accommodating and understanding when I decided to change the program that suits my research topic. I am so glad that I can be a part of my current department, and of course SZTE, since it is also the Center of Pragmatic Research which aims to promote advanced linguistic pragmatic research with international collaborations. After graduating, I wish to continue to work in my academic field as a professor and a researcher. My advice for prospective SZTE students is to choose a university with a good academic reputation that fits their passion.

Hamza Baniata – Faculty of Science and Informatics

I am Hamza Baniata, a first-year student at the Doctoral School of Computer Science, and I am From Jordan. SZTE is continuously supporting research and it has an internationally recognized, highly ranked group of professors. It also offers courses and research topics that are strongly related to my research field; Cloud Computing, Fog Computing and Internet of Things. All of this motivated me to apply to the University/Department of Software Engineering. Szeged is a calm city, full of love and peace. The University of Szeged is similar to the city, which provides the perfect environment for creation and development. Studying at the university requires a high level of effort, commitment and seriousness. Applying to the university and having these characteristics are my two pieces of advice to prospective students. It is very early to define my future now, but I am planning to apply to a research position in my field after graduation and if I had the opportunity, I would love to contribute my effort and knowledge in advancing such a wonderful and respected university.
