Students of the University of Szeged got acquainted with rich Indonesian culture, history, language, natural features and special food. On 29th of October 2021, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Szeged hosted the Indonesian Youth Pledge Day.
Indonesian youth have been nurturing the tradition since 1928, all over the world. Their motto: one country, one nation, one language - For Indonesia's independence.
For the first time this year, the Indonesian government has launched the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA), a scholarship that allows Indonesian students to study a semester at some of the world's most prestigious, internationally recognised universities. Thanks to this programme, 25 Indonesian students from 17 universities study at the University of Szeged in the fall semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. A total of 240 universities from around the world applied for the programme. However, only 60 higher education institutions were selected by the Indonesian government for the cooperation. Only two Hungarian universities are represented, one is the University of Szeged and the other is the University of Pécs.
On October 29, 2021, the Indonesian students of the University of Szeged prepared a diverse programme for the visitors.
The event was opened by Tjia Alphani Anvgrah Pufri, a student of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Szeged, who briefly introduced the event with a group mate, and then handed over the floor to Dr. Edit Bundzsákné Tanács, Head of the International Mobility Office and CEEPUS Institutional Programme Coordinator.
“I am very proud that such a high quality event takes place at our University, I am excited to learn about Indonesian culture, language, customs and food, which have been prepared for us at the University of Szeged, on the occasion of the Indonesian Youth Pledge Day.” - Summarized Dr. Edit Bundzsákné Tanács, Head of the International Mobility Office and CEEPUS Institutional Programme Coordinator, who concluded her speech by thanking the participants in Indonesian language.
The event featured photos of buildings, special hand-embroidered clothes, delicious food, drinks and interesting souvenirs. The event was made more cosy with small gifts, educational flyers and a photo corner.
Visitors were able to experience the hospitality, openness and endless kindness that the Indonesians show towards people.
The IISMA scholarship programme, funded by the Indonesian government, is an excellent example of the short-term programs that are increasingly in demand in the international higher education market, as the intercultural environment contributes to internationalisation and the presence of foreign students adds colour to the city.
The aim of the Excellence Scholarship is to allow 1,000 Indonesian students to enter a multicultural environment each year at the beginning of the program and 10,000 per year from the following academic year. The participation of the University of Szeged in the Excellence Scholarship Programme not only contributes to deepening cooperation with Indonesian universities, but also increases the international recognition of the higher education institution.
