This year, the University of Szeged has improved its position on the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) by 25 places ahead. According to the list, SZTE is the best university out of the capital in Hungary. The CWUR examined 20,000 higher education institutions in the world, of which the top two thousand were ranked in the 2020/2021 list.
This year the University of Szeged moved from last year's 692nd position to the 667th place - 25 places up - in the CWUR World Ranking. This makes SZTE one of the first 3.4 percent of the world's universities. In terms of Hungary, SZTE achieved the third best position this year, ahead of only two institutions in the capital. With this result, the University of Szeged has the title of the best university in the country out of the capital.
Each year, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranks the world's universities. Among the 20,000 higher education institutions, the best two thousand universities are chosen from the worlds institutions based on seven criteria. These criteria include quality of education, graduate students opportunities, teacher excellence, number of publications, and citation rate.
Eight of the Hungarian institutions ranked among the top two thousand. In addition to SZTE, ELTE (588th place), Semmelweis University (666th place), University of Debrecen (684th place) and BME (898th place) were among the top 5 Hungarian higher education institutions. PTE (1052nd place), CEU (1678th place) and the University of Pannonia (1929th place) were also included in the list. The world rankings are again led by three US institutions. Ranked as first on the list is Harvard University, as second Massachusetts Institute of Technology and as third Stanford University.
