On 13 July 2020 an agreement about a dual degree program was signed by Prof. Dr. Zoltán Gyenge, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Szeged, and Céline Meslier Vice Rector of University of Limoges. The signing is merely the first step towards establishing a long-term cooperation between the two universities.
The University of Szeged’s Department of French Studies has close scientific collaborations with multiple French universities, including the University of Limoges, a dynamically improving institution of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region in Southern France. The scientific partnership was first put in an institutional framework via the 2017-2018 Balaton-Hubert Curien programme, a Hungarian-French cross-national agreement operated project won by the University of Szeged’s Department of French Studies and its partner from Limoges. In addition, starting from 2017 the University of Szeged implemented a project of “Internationalisation” (EFOP 343.16 AP3) to extend this very framework.
As a result of the exemplary use of financial supports and years of intensive preparatory work, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Szeged and the University of Limoges have finally arrived at the point of signing the agreement about a dual degree programme. According to the agreement all students graduating from the French MA Studies of the University of Szeged will receive a diploma from both institutions.
’We acknowledge the prestige of the University of Szeged, therefore it is important to remark that we are entering a Memorandum of Understanding with one of the most distinguished higher education institution’ said Céline Meslier, Vice-Rector of the University of Limoges. She added that contemporary francophone literature has always been a specialty at the University of Limoges and the institution has been searching for partners to promote French culture for a long while ago.
Prof. Dr. Zoltán Gyenge, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities emphasized that this signing event was the first step on the road to build up a long-term cooperation. By reason of mapping out the possibilities of a further partnership, Céline Meslier met leaders of the University and visited ELI-ALPS Laser Centre, since in addition to Environmental Law and Mathematics, Laser Physics is such a scientific field within which the two institutions may build a close cooperation in the future.
