Information on PCR Testing for International Students

We provide information for our international students on the PCR testing conducted by the University of Szeged.

We hereby inform you about requisitioning of the SARS-COV2 PCR testing provided by the University of Szeged, along with the official exemption process for home quarantine.

If you are quarantined at your own apartment (rented room, flat, own flat, hotel room, etc.,), please follow the instructions below.

Please book an appointment for testing on our online registering form. The testing location is at the SZTE Apáthy Dormitory, (Apáthy István utca 4. Szeged 6720).

We ask only those students to fill out the form, who are currently spending the officially ordered 14 days of home quarantine. We can only provide the two free of charge PCR tests for those students who have filled out this form.

There are two prerequisites for booking your appointment:

On the one hand, you must consent that your personal data and any data in connection with your testing procedure are accessible and transmittable for the University of Szeged, and for its colleagues assigned to communicate with the epidemiological authorities.

On the other hand, you must authorize the University of Szeged as your full-fledged representative in the process carried out the epidemiological authorities in order to be exempted from the mandatory quarantine.

You must give your consent and authorisation on the link above.

Upon our request, the epidemiological authority will prepare a route plan for you, in which it will authorise you to go directly to the testing location on the shortest possible route without the use of any public traffic. You must have all the necessary protective equipment and always wear a mask when you leave your premises to go to the testing site.

The first test is followed by a second one after 48 hours have passed, the authorised route plan is also valid for taking the second test.

In case both test results are negative, the University will hand in a request for the epidemiological authority, requesting your exemption from the mandatory quarantine. You may only leave your quarantine location after you are given the official decision of the authority.

If any of your two tests are positive for SARS-CoV2 then the epidemiological authority will get in touch with you and advise about your next tasks.

If you are quarantined at a dormitory, please follow these instructions.

If you have been admitted to a dormitory or spending your quarantine at a dormitory, you must wait for your test results at the Öthalmi or Apáthy Dormitory.

Your testing procedure will take place at the Öthalmi or Apáthy Dormitories.

If your two PCR tests are negative, you will authorise the University of Szeged to be your full-fledged representative in the process carried out the epidemiological authorities. The authorization includes a data handling statement in which you allow your personal data and any data in connection with your testing procedure to be accessed and transmitted by the University of Szeged, and by its colleagues assigned to communicate with the epidemiological authorities. The text of this authorization is provided by the University. The University will hand in a request for the epidemiological authority, requesting your exemption from the mandatory quarantine. You may only leave your quarantine location and take your place at your dormitory, after you are given the official decision of the authority.

If any of your two tests are positive for SARS-CoV2 then the epidemiological authority will get in touch with you and advise about your next tasks.

We trust that the above measures will help you in starting your safe and secure academic year.

We wish you good health and great success in your studies!

Ahmad Adha - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

I am Ahmad Adha from Indonesia and currently a 3rd year student in Theoretical Linguistics PhD program. I chose the University of Szeged (SZTE) as my study destination because it is located in the center of the town and it is also the highest ranked university in Hungary. The university staff and the professors were very accommodating and understanding when I decided to change the program that suits my research topic. I am so glad that I can be a part of my current department, and of course SZTE, since it is also the Center of Pragmatic Research which aims to promote advanced linguistic pragmatic research with international collaborations. After graduating, I wish to continue to work in my academic field as a professor and a researcher. My advice for prospective SZTE students is to choose a university with a good academic reputation that fits their passion.

Ferdous Rahman – Faculty of Law and Political Sciences

My name is Ferdous Rahman and I am from Bangladesh. I am pursuing doctoral studies at the Department of Private International Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Science under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme. Currently I am in the first year of my four-year PhD programme. I came to know about SZTE while exploring for the Stipendium Hungaricum programme. Among the other available options, this was my first choice. Apart from its excellent ranking, I got my supervisor with similar research interest. The increasing number of international students gave me a comfort of having a cosmopolitan environment. After starting my studies here in September 2019, I am convinced that I could not expect more. For prospective students, I would advise that SZTE can be their next home as I got mine. Everyone here including the professors, the administrators, and the students are very friendly and helpful. They make studies a joyous journey instead of pile of classes and books. After my graduation, I will return to my home country. The knowledge and the experience that I have been receiving here will be a great resource for my academic career. I intend to continue my research further and expect to contribute to policy formulation at national and international level."
