From Festivals to Festivals in the Spirit of Culture

The core activity of a higher education institution is education, scientific research and artistic work. The SZTE Cultural Office was set up to run university art groups and to encourage creative activities of the university citizens.

The task of the Cultural Office is to organize cultural life at the University of Szeged (SZTE), to coordinate the work of art groups, to cultivate cultural relations within the institution and between the SZTE and the city as well as organizing events. The activity of the office helps to develop the creative capacities of the university citizens.

The Autumn Cultural Festival and the University Spring are both special events of the SZTE. In addition, the Cultural Office announces competitions and workshops for students and employees of the university (in the fields of music, photography, poetry, diary, and drama writing and others) in every semester to urge them to fulfil their creativity. These competitions are important because they make it possible for students to demonstrate their talents in different fields, and they can display skills that would not be revealed otherwise during their studies.

I am a PhD student and a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder from the Philippines. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Environmental Science and I happen to be in my 3rd year of studies. I chose University of Szeged because its one of the top ranked research university in Hungary known for its good reputation in the fields of health and natural sciences. Coming from the Philippines with a warm climate, I had huge preference of Szeged for my studies, the city having the most rays of sunshine and considered to be the warmest place in Hungary. I would advise all the prospective students to join University of Szeged’s diverse and vibrant community! Don’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone, try to find and establish your niche in a new place like what I did. I didn’t regret coming to Szeged as it continuously provides me an enabling learning environment for various reasons, has affordable cost of living, very safe and calm university town, organized transport system, beautiful and clean surroundings with the very sightly Tisza River which adds to its appeal, and also holds many festivals throughout the year. After graduation, I am planning to go back to my home institution and continue my teaching duties at the University of the Philippines Los Baños

Hamza Baniata – Faculty of Science and Informatics

I am Hamza Baniata, a first-year student at the Doctoral School of Computer Science, and I am From Jordan. SZTE is continuously supporting research and it has an internationally recognized, highly ranked group of professors. It also offers courses and research topics that are strongly related to my research field; Cloud Computing, Fog Computing and Internet of Things. All of this motivated me to apply to the University/Department of Software Engineering. Szeged is a calm city, full of love and peace. The University of Szeged is similar to the city, which provides the perfect environment for creation and development. Studying at the university requires a high level of effort, commitment and seriousness. Applying to the university and having these characteristics are my two pieces of advice to prospective students. It is very early to define my future now, but I am planning to apply to a research position in my field after graduation and if I had the opportunity, I would love to contribute my effort and knowledge in advancing such a wonderful and respected university.
