About the program

The Doctoral School of Education’s main objective is to train researchers of Education. Research areas include Psychological Questions of Development and Education; Learning and Instruction; Educational Assessment, Digital Technologies in Education; Social and Emotional Education; Health Education; Content Pedagogy (find further information here). The 240 credits of the eight-semester program are earned by coursework, research activities and publications (find further information here).

Who should apply?

We expect applicants to be interested in issues related to education and schooling. It is an advantage if the applicant has a Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a field related to learning and instruction. Applicants should have a research topic and they must ascertain that it matches a research topic among those announced on doktori.hu (cf. http://160.114.35.186/phd/ ). It is recommended to contact the prospective supervisor announcing the chosen topic before submitting the application.


Application requirements:
  • Master degree (preferably in Education or a related field);
  • Proof of oral and written proficiency in at least upper intermediate level, B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference, or equivalent to IELTS 6.5). The proof of proficiency must be issued by an established, internationally recognised language examination body. – If the medium of instruction was English in a higher education program the applicant graduated from, it is possible to provide an official declaration of this by the Registrar’s Office of the college/university that issued the diploma in lieu of the language exam.
