Cultural life at the University of Szeged

Our annual cultural festivals offer over 500 programmes on average at more than 100 different venues; 320 participants enter the talent-spotting competitions organised by the university. We have 7 registered amateur artistic groups, such as choirs, theatre groups and symphonic orchestras.

The cultural events organised by the university complement perfectly the wide variety of cultural programmes sponsored by the city, as the festivals also attract audiences outside the university. Since 2000 the Autumn Cultural Festival, and since 2004 the University Spring have been held annually. At these exhilarating events students of the university can demonstrate their talents alongside famous artists at the various premieres, exhibitions and meetings.

The results and rankings of the athletes attending the University of Szeged clearly demonstrate that the institution is an active and successful participant in sporting events organised by universities worldwide. Furthermore, the sporting events that were held over previous years in the city also prove that the University of Szeged is among the best in the management of sports events. All these successes reflect the university’s general attitude, that is, besides scientific results, achievements in competitive and recreational sports are equally important parts of student life.

The events are organized by SZTE Cultural Office.

Imane_CherbiImane Cherbi - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

My name is Cherbi Imane and I am 23 years old from Algeria. I am spending my last semester at the University of Szeged Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Being an MA student of Applied Linguistics, University of Szeged offered me a chance to gain sufficient knowledge about my field of study. I choose the University of Szeged simply because it is a highly ranked academic institution both nationally and internationally; also because of the variety of programs that they have for international students.

I love everything in Szeged: every corner of every street, I will always keep them in my heart. I take photos of the city when walking around and I am planning to launch a blog to promote this beautiful corner of Hungary among international students. People of Szeged are caring, always smiling and we are living peacefully together. I have never felt isolated or neglected. As a coffee lover, i always enjoy having my favorite type of coffee in different coffees in Szeged. Lookin for calmness and nature vibes, I would certainly walk by the Tisza river whenever I want.

My first impression about Szeged was, that it is „a standard lovely Western city. You can see colourful buildings everywhere; enjoy the sunshine, walk in the nature, study in the bright, high-tech library”. I think this is a perfect place for students where they can experience sparkling culture diversity, enjoy the peacefulness of everyday life, meet a lot of kind and motivating people, enjoy the inspiring academic atmosphere, taste the food not only from Hungary but also from the world. I can call Szeged my second home.
