1. What is your motto?
I always say that we go through tough times to help us grow. So, my motto is: “No rain, no flowers.”
2. Why did you choose the University of Szeged as your study destination?
I chose to study at the University of Szeged because it offers research projects that align with my interests. I also appreciate the quiet and green environment, which I believe is very conducive to studying and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
3. How do you find the student life here in Szeged?
In Szeged, students can always find activities ranging from small group discussions to cultural nights and gatherings. I've made many international friends here, and my social circle continues to grow as I meet friends of friends and introduce my own friends. You’re sure to find people who share your personality, hobbies, and interests—it just takes a bit of courage to get started.
4. As a member of the EUGLOH local student board at SZTE, what are your responsibilities, and how do they impact your student life, both locally and internationally?
I’m currently the President of the EUGLOH local student board at SZTE. EUGLOH is a consortium of nine universities, so my role involves working on both international and local levels and promoting our activities to students. This has given me the chance to better understand student needs and connect with people from different perspectives, not just here in Szeged but also at our partner universities. Being part of this alliance provided me with several opportunities to meet the 2023 Nobel Laureate in Medicine or Physiology, Prof. Katalin Karikó. I gained a glimpse into her life as a scientist and had the chance to engage in a brief conversation with her about her experiences. Knowing that she faced similar obstacles but persisted with great success motivates me to keep pushing forward as well. Thanks to SZTE and EUGLOH, I was able to be surrounded by people whom I never thought I would be in the same room with. These experiences were made possible because the SZTE staff recognized my potential and did not hesitate to involve me in such significant opportunities. Besides expanding my network of contacts, it’s helping me recognize and build on my strengths with support from my colleagues. Being part of this alliance has really made me feel belonged, heard, and seen which eventually makes my student life so fulfilling.
5. What did you learn from traveling abroad to pursue your education?
Traveling abroad to pursue my education has opened my eyes to the constant need for growth. I am constantly encountering new experiences and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. These new experiences, in turn, broaden my perspective on the world and help me see things from new angles. It's a constant learning process that enhances my independence and makes me appreciate the little things I might have taken for granted back home.
6. What does your day look like outside of classrooms?
I'm a very simple person. Making time for self-care and improvement, and meeting with the people I value are what I usually do after my laboratory experiments. It varies on day-to-day basis, but these simple things keep me grounded, fulfilled, and ready for the next day.
7. What is your favourite subject?
I’d say Biology
8. Name one thing the University has provided you?
Growth.
9. What is your favourite spot in Szeged?
By the Tisza River is my favourite spot in Szeged. I always walk around this area and sometimes sit and feed the ducks. It is really calming and very suitable for de-stressing.
10. What do you advice for those who are thinking about studying abroad?
Speaking from experience, don't hesitate to embrace the unfamiliarity. There are so many opportunities that await you the moment you take the first step. Studying abroad will equip you with worthy knowledge, a renewed perspective, lasting friendships, and the opportunity for self-discovery – and the list goes on!
11. Describe a situation that has happened to you in Szeged and left an impact on you?
I want to highlight the recent EUGLOH Annual Summit in Szeged. I was given the chance to be a keynote speaker alongside the 2023 Nobel Laureates, Prof. Katalin Karikó and Prof. Anne L'Huillier. I have never expected in my life that I will be trusted with such significant role. This was a very humbling experience – not because of the stage itself, but because of the interactions I had before and after my speech. I was able to engage in inspiring conversations with the accomplished individuals where I learned about their experiences, their perseverance, and their achievements. These opportunities are rare and yet I get to fully experience them. It was so motivating that it left a lasting mark on me.
12. What are your future plans?
After I finish my PhD, I plan to pursue a career that combines research with practical applications. My target job will be within research and development roles especially in Biotech companies. This will allow me to continually engage in research while applying my skills to develop new solutions to health-related challenges in the industry.
13. Any other thoughts that come to your mind that you would like to share as a closing sentence?
I will take this opportunity to say that pursuing education abroad is a privilege. We must cherish this chance and make the most of it. We should use this opportunity to improve ourselves, build connections, and support fellow students. Our experiences should help pave the way for the next generation.
