The University of Szeged ranks among the world’s leading institutions for sustainability, according to the newly released Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026. Among more than 1,600 universities evaluated worldwide, SZTE placed in the 301–400 band overall and ranked second in Hungary, reaffirming its position among the country’s top-performing universities. Demonstrating its comprehensive commitment to sustainability, the University of Szeged chose to be assessed across all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieved the highest score among Hungarian universities in nine categories.

The University of Szeged remains one of the world’s top universities in the latest QS World University Rankings. Placing within the top 10% of institutions worldwide, SZTE continues to hold a leading position among Hungarian higher education institutions.

According to the latest UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, published in December, the University of Szeged has achieved 41st place globally in sustainability performance, securing a position among Europe’s top 20 universities. Advancing more than 30 places worldwide, SZTE’s performance signals a clear acceleration in its sustainability trajectory and reinforces its growing international standing as a benchmark institution in environmental responsibility.

The 2025 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) – one of the world’s most prestigious higher education rankings – has been released, confirming the University of Szeged once again as Hungary’s number one university. SZTE remains the country’s sole representative among the global top 500, with only four Hungarian universities making this year’s list.
