Updated: 12th March 2020 - Measures Regarding Traveling Abroad and Receiving Foreigners

Missions to foreign countries – regardless of the destination – cannot be ordered or authorized, university citizens are advised to delay their private travels abroad and citizens of foreign countries are not allowed to reside on campus. According to the Government Decree, healthcare workers shall only be allowed to leave the territory of Hungary with the permission of the Minister responsible for the relevant sector.

Extraordinary legal order and a state of emergency has been announced for the whole territory of the country due to the coronavirus epidemic, announced Gergely Gulyás, Minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, while describing the decision of yesterday's government meeting.

Subject to the Government Decree on ‘measures to be taken during emergency, preventing and remedying the effects of a mass epidemic which endangers the safety of life and property, and of emergency measures to protect the health and life of Hungarian citizens’, to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, all employees of the University of Szeged were informed of the following.

With regard to applicable Decree, healthcare workers (health care workers: physicians, dentists, pharmacists, others with advanced health care qualifications, those with vocational health care qualifications, or those without qualifications involved in delivering health services), shall only be allowed to leave the territory of Hungary with the permission of the Minister responsible for the relevant sector.

As regards all other employees and students of the University of Szeged, missions to foreign countries – regardless of the destination – cannot be ordered or authorized nor professional journeys to foreign countries.

We call the attention of all university citizens to refrain from or delay travelling abroad for private purposes if possible – for their personal safety and to maintain the smooth operation of the organizational units of the University of Szeged.

Visits by foreign delegations and foreign guests shall be cancelled or postponed, as they may be held after the end of the state of emergency.

Non-Hungarian citizens shall not enter or remain in the area of the University. If a visit by a foreign individual is indispensable for the basic activities of the University, this shall only be possible with special electronic permission granted by the Operative Committee on Coronavirus. Prior authorization from the Operative Committee on Coronavirus shall be requested at coronavirus.jelentes@rekt.szte.hu.

Ahmad Adha - Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

I am Ahmad Adha from Indonesia and currently a 3rd year student in Theoretical Linguistics PhD program. I chose the University of Szeged (SZTE) as my study destination because it is located in the center of the town and it is also the highest ranked university in Hungary. The university staff and the professors were very accommodating and understanding when I decided to change the program that suits my research topic. I am so glad that I can be a part of my current department, and of course SZTE, since it is also the Center of Pragmatic Research which aims to promote advanced linguistic pragmatic research with international collaborations. After graduating, I wish to continue to work in my academic field as a professor and a researcher. My advice for prospective SZTE students is to choose a university with a good academic reputation that fits their passion.

I am a PhD student and a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder from the Philippines. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Environmental Science and I happen to be in my 3rd year of studies. I chose University of Szeged because its one of the top ranked research university in Hungary known for its good reputation in the fields of health and natural sciences. Coming from the Philippines with a warm climate, I had huge preference of Szeged for my studies, the city having the most rays of sunshine and considered to be the warmest place in Hungary. I would advise all the prospective students to join University of Szeged’s diverse and vibrant community! Don’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone, try to find and establish your niche in a new place like what I did. I didn’t regret coming to Szeged as it continuously provides me an enabling learning environment for various reasons, has affordable cost of living, very safe and calm university town, organized transport system, beautiful and clean surroundings with the very sightly Tisza River which adds to its appeal, and also holds many festivals throughout the year. After graduation, I am planning to go back to my home institution and continue my teaching duties at the University of the Philippines Los Baños
