Online Conference Within the EUGLOH Project

Between the 30th March and 1st April 2020, a virtual conference was held within the framework of the EUGLOH project. With regard to the COVID-19 outbreak, the annual meeting of the project was carried out exceptionally online.

The host of the annual meeting of the EUGLOGH project was the University of Porto, where a wide choice of professional training programs were prepared to the delegations of member institutions. However, due to the state of emergency declared concerning the novel coronavirus outbreak, journeys were cancelled – as a consequence, the management of the project decided to host the event virtually and plenary sessions of the operative committees would be held online.

The main topic of the three-day video conference was the relocation of the project's programs to the online space. Thus, the online collaboration - which will become increasingly important in the near future - has already been in the spotlight in the first year of the EUGLOH project. As a result of these discussions, scheduled programs do not need to be canceled, citizens of all five universities will be able to participate on virtual platforms. All things considered, we may expect online workshops, competitions, summer universities and courses in the joint organization of the five partner universities in the near future.

'We believe that we must maintain our joint project on global health during these difficult times. Our mutual goal is to provide the 210,000 students who are part of the collaboration at the five partner universities with valuable programs' emphasized Prof. Dr. Márta Széll, Vice-Rector for Strategic Planning at the SZTE and Member of the Executive Board of the project.

In 2019, SZTE submitted a joint application with four other European universities; the University of Paris-Saclay, the University of Lund, the University of Porto and the Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich to join the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH), which won funding for 3 years from the European University Associations program. Through the collaboration, 210,000 students, 23,000 educators, researchers, and administrative staff will have access to mobility between the five collaborating universities. In addition to flexible curricula and a European degree, they will allow students to personalize their studies: for example, they can choose which partner institution and when to study at.

Nikki - Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies

My name is Nikki and I am from Iran. Currently I am a second year student studying Physiotherapy at the University of Szeged. I really like the Environment of Szeged as it is a true University City where you can meet people from around the world. I consider Szeged as my second home since I have established my own path here and I have a lot of friends who make me feel home. The reason why I came to Szeged is because I was informed by one of my friends about the fact that the University degrees are EU accredited and will help me to reach my goals and open doors for future job opportunities. Once I have obtained my degree, I would like to stay in Hungary and pursue a post graduate program. Later on I will seize the opportunity to gain some job experience in my field here in Hungary before I hold my ground in Europe.

I am a PhD student and a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder from the Philippines. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Environmental Science and I happen to be in my 3rd year of studies. I chose University of Szeged because its one of the top ranked research university in Hungary known for its good reputation in the fields of health and natural sciences. Coming from the Philippines with a warm climate, I had huge preference of Szeged for my studies, the city having the most rays of sunshine and considered to be the warmest place in Hungary. I would advise all the prospective students to join University of Szeged’s diverse and vibrant community! Don’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone, try to find and establish your niche in a new place like what I did. I didn’t regret coming to Szeged as it continuously provides me an enabling learning environment for various reasons, has affordable cost of living, very safe and calm university town, organized transport system, beautiful and clean surroundings with the very sightly Tisza River which adds to its appeal, and also holds many festivals throughout the year. After graduation, I am planning to go back to my home institution and continue my teaching duties at the University of the Philippines Los Baños
