The University of Szeged recently hosted a meeting of Faculty Equal Opportunity Coordinators, jointly organized by the Student Counseling Center, the SANSZ Office, and the Student Equal Opportunities Committee (HEB).

The event aimed not only to present and discuss the renewed Equal Opportunities Regulation, but also to create a consultative platform where academic and administrative coordinators from different faculties could actively contribute to a shared understanding of inclusive university practices.

Throughout the meeting, it became clear that equal opportunities extend beyond regulatory frameworks. Inclusion is not merely a conceptual principle, but a practical dimension of everyday university life—manifested in decisions that shape students’ academic pathways, access to support, and overall well-being.

The programme combined short expert presentations with roundtable discussions, enabling participants to reflect on real-life cases and institutional practices. This interactive format encouraged the exchange of experiences, challenges, and good practices across faculties, fostering a more coherent and predictable approach to equal opportunity measures within the university.

A key message of the event was that equal opportunities are not limited to specific student groups. International students are an integral part of the university community, and the principles of equal treatment and inclusion apply to them equally. Supporting their integration and ensuring fair access to academic and support services is a shared institutional responsibility.

In this context, the organizers also highlighted that the final version of the Equal Opportunities Regulation will soon be available in English, making it more accessible to the international student body.

The organizers emphasized that the regulation should not be seen as a static document, but as a practical framework that supports decision-making and reduces uncertainty in everyday situations. The active engagement of faculty coordinators plays a crucial role in translating these principles into consistent institutional practice.

The meeting reaffirmed that dialogue and collaboration across organizational levels are essential for embedding inclusion into the fabric of university life. The organizers trust that this event marks not only a professional exchange, but also the beginning of a continuous, joint effort towards a more inclusive and supportive university environment.
