Cecilia Kecskés graduated in English Studies at the SZTE BTK and earned her Google certified certificate in Digital Marketing and E-Commerce at Coursera while studying. The free opportunity is available to all SZTE students, so we asked her about her experience.
Why did you choose this course?
I've always been interested in marketing, so I was keen to do a shorter course related to marketing, so I didn't think twice when I saw Coursera's professional certificate in the subject. It was with great determination that I started Google's Digital Marketing & E-Commerce course in autumn 2022, which consists of seven courses.
Why is this course special?
I have gained a lot of useful knowledge, both practical and theoretical. A course consisted of four weeks on average and each week had several video lessons, readings, exercises and graded assignments. I particularly liked the list/explanation of useful terms that could be downloaded at the end of each week. My other favourite were the creative exercises such as Canva, Excel or maybe writing exercises which were not compulsory but I did them because you learn best when you practise what you have learnt in theory.
Who teaches in such a practical training?
The presenters of the short videos were different Google employees during each course, explaining very well, and also showing their career paths, how exactly they got to the position they are currently working in. This was a great motivation for me, as it gave me a better understanding of exactly what kind of tasks I could expect in which position.
What do you think will be the biggest benefit for you?
What is the most useful thing I have learned? It's hard to say, as I've gained so much knowledge, from the basics such as marketing funnel, SEO and SEM, to email marketing, analytics and ecommerce. However, what I can point out is that although I started this course because of marketing, by the end I was much more interested in online commerce than I thought I would be.
Getting a professional certificate is more work than doing a traditional course. What advice would you give to people who are starting out?
I had a few weeks/months where my motivation waned a bit, so instead of the recommended six months, it ended up taking me nearly a year to get my professional certificate. My advice is that, however much you feel you don't have time for this, start, take it one step at a time, as there are few places outside of Coursera where you can study completely on your own schedule. Overall, I'm proud of myself for doing it, and at the end of it, I've gained a Google professional certificate and a lot of new knowledge and skills. I think all students at the SZTE should take advantage of this great opportunity!
Good news for the conscious career-builders: from spring 2024, 12 professional certificates will be worth credits for studying at the University of Szeged.
With the Coursera courses, tested by the German Accreditation Commission and advertised by IBM and Google, the diploma is worth more, as you get a certificate of knowledge certified by the companies, and automatic credits at that. Earn professional certificates for 4-9 credits in the Coursera smart specialisation module. Remember, you only need a Neptune code to enter!
