The Biobank at the University of Szeged employs state-of-the-art industrial refrigeration storage technology, specialized building management and security systems, as well as smart technologies for precise monitoring of environmental conditions.

Our technology and processes incorporate specialized features designed to meet a wide range of research and storage needs. In our rigorously controlled environment, we safeguard the integrity of biobank samples, offering storage solutions from room temperature (e.g., FFPE blocks) to ultra-low temperatures, including -20°C, -80°C, and even -196°C liquid nitrogen storage.

In addition to traditional ULT freezers, we provide semi-automatic storage systems. With our extensive capacity, we can securely accommodate millions of samples.

 

Storage of Infectious Samples

In designing our biobank infrastructure, we focused on providing not just sample storage but also a full-scope, supportive environment. The Biobank houses two BSL-2 biological laboratories, equipped with the necessary research tools, which enable the safe storage of various infectious samples—an option not typically provided by conventional biobanks.
