The University of Szeged has once again secured a place among the world’s leading universities in the latest Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) list. Ranked in the top 3 percent of more than 21,000 higher education institutions evaluated worldwide, SZTE’s performance highlights the University’s strong international standing, academic excellence, and growing research impact.

In early June, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) released its 2026 list of the world’s top universities. The University of Szeged ranked in the global top 3 percent, maintaining its position as one of Hungary’s leading higher education institutions. Of the seven Hungarian universities included in the ranking, SZTE placed second nationally and secured a position among the top few percent of universities across Europe.

The result confirms that the University of Szeged is not only one of Hungary’s most prominent higher education institutions but also has a strong presence in the international academic and research community. Being ranked in the top 3 percent of universities worldwide reflects the impact of SZTE’s strategic development, research excellence, and commitment to supporting student success.

The CWUR ranking is based entirely on performance indicators. Rather than drawing on surveys or data submitted by universities, institutions are evaluated using information gathered from independent sources, providing an objective comparison of the world’s top universities. CWUR assesses institutions using seven indicators grouped into four broad categories: education, employability, faculty excellence, and research.

In the ranking, SZTE is listed alongside internationally recognized institutions such as the Medical University of Graz (Austria), Bocconi University (Italy), the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science (United States), Shaanxi Normal University (China), and the University of Aveiro (Portugal).

The 2026 ranking is topped by three U.S. institutions: Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Stanford University.
