The 2026 edition of the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, released on October 9, 2025, once again affirms the University of Szeged’s excellence. Despite intensifying global competition, SZTE has successfully retained its position among the world’s leading universities.
Times Higher Education’s freshly released World University Rankings 2026 evaluated a record 3,118 universities from 115 countries, with 2,191 institutions making it onto the ranked list. Compared to last year, the field has grown significantly – with two additional countries represented, 263 more universities assessed, and 99 more institutions ranked. In this increasingly competitive environment, the University of Szeged has maintained its strong global standing among the world’s top universities (1001-1200).

The World University Rankings by Times Higher Education are based on 18 performance indicators across five key areas: teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), industry engagement (4%), and international outlook (7.5%). The University of Szeged performed well across all evaluated categories and exceeded the global average in several indicators, including teaching, international outlook, and industry engagement. Alongside the University of Szeged, eleven other Hungarian higher education institutions were also included in this year’s ranking.
