Units for SZTE Students

The Foreign Language Centre offers general as well as specialised English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Russian and Spanish language courses at nearly all levels to students who are not majoring in these languages at the University of Szeged. Students with an active status at the University of Szeged are entitled to a certain number of language courses free of charge. The Foreign Language Centre is an accredited examination centre for various exams in English, German and Hungarian languages (including IELTS, TOLES, ÖSD, Goethe, telc). For more information visit: www.lingo.u-szeged.hu/welcome
The Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged was officially opened in the autumn of 2012 as a result of cooperation between the University of Szeged and the Shanghai International Studies University with the support of Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters). For those interested in learning Chinese as a foreign language the Institute offers language classes taught by professional Chinese language teachers. Language classes are held both at the classrooms of the Confucius Institute and of the different faculty buildings of the university. Besides language teaching, the Institute emphasises the importance of introducing Chinese culture to a wide audience: the Institute organises a great variety of exciting programs free to attend by the public.
The University Library integrates the infrastructure of every faculty and department. In the Centre there is room for more than a thousand students, making it the largest in the country. The four open levels of shelves contain 350.000 volumes and a further 1,5 million volumes and journals in storage.
The Congress Centre was opened to the public in December 2004. The Congress Centre (which is unique in the East European region) provides a venue for university and business programmes as well as cultural and charity events (concerts, exhibitions).
The web page of the Sports Centre provides information about the completion of courses, associations supervising the sporting life of the university, sports institutions and projects.
The University Computer Centre provides central IT services for the University of Szeged, including help desk and application management (Neptun).
The first – formal – step of the higher educational integration was the establishment of a central service office, which is capable of providing high level integrated services.
We provide help for the student community in tackling life management difficulties. We offer our counselling services for all active students of the University of Szeged for five sessions free of charge upon registration.
The university-level representation of the students is provided by the Students’ Union. The main task of the Students Union and the students’ movement is to identify the problems of faculties and departments and synthesize them in a manner which helps the students to step up united and effectively, on institutional or even wider platforms.
To make university citizens feel the lifelong support of the institution, the Alma Mater Office is there to maintain contact with former students.
The University of Szeged Career Office functions as a mediator between the students and the labour market. During their training students can improve their skills; thus the office helps the students’ preparation for seeking jobs.
In the shop various products with SZTE and faculty logos, emblems and blazons, Hungarian and English inscriptions can be purchased.
Students can obtain their notes through the Book Shops of the University of Szeged, where they can use their student card.

Nikki - Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies

My name is Nikki and I am from Iran. Currently I am a second year student studying Physiotherapy at the University of Szeged. I really like the Environment of Szeged as it is a true University City where you can meet people from around the world. I consider Szeged as my second home since I have established my own path here and I have a lot of friends who make me feel home. The reason why I came to Szeged is because I was informed by one of my friends about the fact that the University degrees are EU accredited and will help me to reach my goals and open doors for future job opportunities. Once I have obtained my degree, I would like to stay in Hungary and pursue a post graduate program. Later on I will seize the opportunity to gain some job experience in my field here in Hungary before I hold my ground in Europe.

Ferdous Rahman – Faculty of Law and Political Sciences

My name is Ferdous Rahman and I am from Bangladesh. I am pursuing doctoral studies at the Department of Private International Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Science under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme. Currently I am in the first year of my four-year PhD programme. I came to know about SZTE while exploring for the Stipendium Hungaricum programme. Among the other available options, this was my first choice. Apart from its excellent ranking, I got my supervisor with similar research interest. The increasing number of international students gave me a comfort of having a cosmopolitan environment. After starting my studies here in September 2019, I am convinced that I could not expect more. For prospective students, I would advise that SZTE can be their next home as I got mine. Everyone here including the professors, the administrators, and the students are very friendly and helpful. They make studies a joyous journey instead of pile of classes and books. After my graduation, I will return to my home country. The knowledge and the experience that I have been receiving here will be a great resource for my academic career. I intend to continue my research further and expect to contribute to policy formulation at national and international level."
